Chronicles of my Quarantine

Sometimes we start to think about all the situations that we lived before the global quarantine the world suffered, such as our way of going out dressed; what clothes are we going to wear today, should I shave or touch my mustache or just say my hair is long, I think I need a cut urgently.

One of my “Quarantined outfits”

Regarding clothing, I can say for sure that I am less and less interested in how I will be dressed every day nowadays, what shoes I will be able to wear, what pants I will wear to match the shirt I will be wearing or simple details such as accessories. Like a simple clock; all these details become mundane after confinement; I think the lockdown somehow makes us more human and less machines after several weeks.

Nowadays, in quarantine times I have 2–3 changes of clothes that have become my daily bread. A pair of sweatpants, same that I combine with 2 pairs of sports shoes; because the casuals have been uncomfortable for so long that I don’t even want to see them again. Also, 2 or 3 sweatshirts of different colors (obviously to be able to change and combine them) and my classic kangaroo in which I carry all my belongings and in which I move along with my bike around the city for grocery shopping. I have never felt so free without the madding crowd of cars, the traffic jams typical of a city like Quito, the pollution; so finally, everything returns to its natural flowing sense. I go out to the street to grocery shopping and to the bank; which by the way are two of the only quarantine activities that all people can do freely with extended hours from 5 am to 2 pm.

Sometimes I think and ask myself, how have the plans that we previously believed to be day-to-day activities have changed? A month ago, we did not take into account that partying, going for a free walk in the city, going for a trip on a weekend, meeting with friends, family; They were activities that today are classified as impossible to carry out but that prior to the virus, no one took them into account as important because they were part of the daily life of all people.

Now we realize that even those smallest details are what count and those that now begin to make more sense to everyone; In short, I think that we become more human and we stop being robots or machines that have adjusted their daily routine to activities that impoverish the soul but enrich the pocket of greed, corruption and envy. Before we did not appreciate the simplest details of life such as a hug, a kiss, a walk, a warm greeting and why not even a handshake. The world has taken a complete turn in every way and every time we realize that the details that we did not value before are the ones that really count.Toast to this quarantine that although it puts us in an extremely difficult situation as a society, as a species, as humanity in general; if something so serious did not happen to our world and if nature did not shake us from our bubble by believing ourselves the owners of the planet and the world; We would not have the opportunity to wake up from this lethargic dream that has kept us asleep for thousands of years.
